Readers Needed! (audio)        Drivers Needed! (audio)

One on one volunteers are people over the age of 18 who are matched with a person who is blind or visually impaired. Responsibilities can include:

  • Meeting for conversation and companionship.
  • Reading printed materials in homes, offices, schools or senior facilities.
  • Providing transportation and sighted guide.
  • Serving as an escort on shopping trips or outings.

Volunteers' preferences for geographic location, type of reading assignment, availability and other criteria are considered so that mutually satisfying matches are made. Although CAB asks for a six-month commitment, many volunteers have provided ongoing assistance for a person who is blind or visually impaired for many years! These services are critical in helping people to remain independent and stay connected.
