In addition to our Social Services, CABVI also operates a variety of Social Enterprises to help provide employment opportunities to people who are blind and visually impaired in our community. A Social Enterprise is a business that operates to further a social mission; for us, that means helping to reduce the 70% unemployment rate for people who are blind or visually impaired by providing meaningful employment and training, which enables our employees to live fuller, more independent lives.
Since 1911, CABVI’s blind and visually impaired employees have been producing top-quality goods in a light industrial manufacturing setting. We continue this tradition in our Industries Program today, offering our employees opportunities to learn job skills and receive on-the-job training to help them achieve a fulfilling career and greater independence.
Our Core Capabilities include converting mill-sized rolls of paper and tapes into individual, retail-friendly products. Other capabilities include: assembly, packaging, slitting, rewinding, and kitting.
The products we manufacture are sold to the Federal and State Governments, as well as the commercial market. CABVI is a member agency of the National Industries for the Blind, who helps to implement the AbilityOne Program. Under this program, 89 non-profit blindness agencies in the U.S. provide mission-critical products to the Federal Government. CABVI also sells through Ohio’s Community Rehabilitation Program.
Our Product Lines Includes:
Tape and Rolled Paper
Photoluminescent Exit, Egress, and Safety Products
Door Locks and Door Hardware
Safety, ADA, & Custom Signs
CABVI has over 16 years of experience in the office supply industry. From launching our first office supply business at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in 2001 to the launch of VIE-Ability in 2013, we are proud to provide the highest level of customer support and products to both our Federal and Commercial customers.
The Cincinnati Association for the Blind & Visually Impaired launched VIE Ability, (formerly Cincy Sight) in 2013 in an effort to fill a need for more professional-level job opportunities for people who had established careers, but unexpectedly lost their vision later in life. VIE Ability offers over 50,000 office products and all office supply operations are run by people who are blind or have severe vision loss.
Every time someone places an office supply order, VIE Ability staff are checking inventory levels, providing the best possible customer service, managing logistics and making sure the orders are on a truck for next-day delivery. They do all of this with the help of advanced computer magnification and screen reading software.
Every order on VIE-Ability.org provides work and training that employees need to gain skills to be competitive in the work place. Aside from the social impact purchases make, customers also receive competitive pricing on over 50,000 high-quality office supplies with free next day delivery on all of their orders. VIE Ability employees are available to provide friendly and personal customer service over the phone or by email.
