Our mission at CABVI is empowering individuals who are blind or visually impaired with opportunities to
seek independence. Last year, we served more than 6,000 individuals in the Greater Cincinnati community.
Along with many others, our organization has been affected by the COVID-19 crisis and we’ve had to adjust
our operations. Here’s a glimpse at how we are continuing to serve our clients and make a positive impact in our community:
Since our ability to serve clients face-to-face has been reduced, we have primarily been providing
services and support remotely to our clients. This includes counseling, instruction in access technology
and adaptive techniques for daily living skills, as well as training in traveling safely. In addition, we’ve been
fulfilling orders of low vision aids and other needed equipment.
Our Early Childhood & Youth Services team has put together a virtual shared music experience for clients,
called the “tiny CHOICE concerts,” in place of our annual music recital. This gives clients a chance to come together, share their music, and grow together.
Information & Volunteer Services
Our Radio Reading Service broadcast operations have moved to home-based recordings
through remote access by our volunteer readers and broadcast team.
CABVI’s Hornbeck Social Enterprise Center, on Kenner Street, has been designated an
Essential Supplier of products to both the State of Ohio and the Federal Government.
CABVI’s Industries Program continues production of both exam paper for the
Veterans Administration as well as printing paper for the State of Ohio
Jobs and Family Services office in Columbus that is used to print unemployment claims on.
Also, in partnership with LumAware, CABVI is currently making ClearGuard shields
to help create safe work place conditions as people return back to work. We are able to
make 100 ClearShields a day and we notice the demand is increasing with lots of inquiries
from retail, restaurants and schools.
VIE Ability continues to provide crucial jobs for people who have vision loss as well as
much-needed COVID-19 supplies to our local community during this challenging time.
With 40,000+ items available, VIE Ability customers are pleased with competitive prices,
next day free delivery, and no minimums. In addition to much-needed cleaning supplies,
Protective Face Shields are now available while supplies last.
CABVI is deeply grateful for generous ongoing community support that makes it possible for the
agency to continue serving people of all ages in the Greater Cincinnati area who are blind
or visually impaired. We hope that you will consider making a donation to CABVI to support the vital work
we are doing to help people with severe vision loss get through this extraordinary time.
Thank you in advance for your support!
